I hate it when I start watching the movie, midway through the movie, I start liking it immensely to have it fall apart in the final 2minutes. Among the top 10 harbingers of “THE END” - 1) dreaded crane shot with a character walking away from the camera or 2) that fade to black, both with a raising […]

Far from Heaven

28Mar06

Saw Todd Haynes’ movie Far from Heaven yesterday - though I havent seen all his work (saw a boring, but cult-hit ‘Velvet Goldmine’, and an ok movie called ‘Safe’)- I have read a whole lot about him in the book ‘Shooting to Kill’.
Great production design recreating the look and the aura of 1950s - but the […]

Domino

16Mar06

Tony Scott’s highly stylized MTV edited Domino is like reading a whole page of text while its blinking and changing colors. The camera is always moving, and the whole movies looks like someone behind the camera was playing with all video effects (polarize, solarize, flip, slowmo, fastmo, flash cut, flash forward cut, B&W, mirror…and the […]

Times of India reports that a group called ’World Federation of Tamil Youth’ have nomiated Jaya for Noble prize! - that shows both the rotting journalistic standard of TOI and also marks the return of JJ workshipping. I dont know who these clowns are - but they sure appear to be a hardcore JJ fangroup - as results show 90% of their […]

AUS vs SA

13Mar06

*whacked* -
South Africa 438 for 9 (Gibbs 175, Smith 90, Boucher 50*, Bracken 5-67)
beat
Australia 434 for 4 (Ponting 164, Hussey 81, Katich 79, Gilchrist 55) by one wicket

On first glance the score does look like a Test match first innings score. At least this will shut up Sharne Warne for good.
First this:

Commentators practically gave the cup to AUS, and […]

A simple fairy tale set in modern day Canada. Occassional gorgeous imagery saves this movie from falling flat. Deepa Mehta uses a lot of Indian BGM and raaga’s to punctuate emotions (mostly sad ones). Boring sometimes, but watchable once.

Dreamcatcher

02Mar06

Woah - what a crazy ride! When I started the movie I had no idea of the story or what this movie is about, I just had classified it as a ‘thriller or a horror’ movie.
It started as a ordinary premonition kind of movie (the one you’d expect from any Stephen King movie) - and […]

My affair with Asian blockbusters continue - Yesterday I saw ‘Mou gaan dou’ - a fascinating cat and mouse game between a undercover cop (who infiltered the gang) and an undercover mole (who infiltered the Police).
The two reigning superstars of Hong Kong cinema Andy Lau and Tony Leug (Wong Kar-Wai regular) play the leads as good […]
